Whew…

As of today life is finally back to being semi-sane. Both boys got off to college yesterday and I received a phone call from each of them this morning, Simon wanting to know where I had put his mixing bowls and if the cupcake pans belonged to him, and Tommy letting me know he got the job at food services for the 6:45 am slot (he’s so happy…really). Of course I was still in bed when they both called, trying to recover from my summer of driving (as I like to refer to it).

We recently took a vacation to North Carolina and drove all over the place, checking out everything wonderful that state has to offer. We love NC and can see ourselves retiring there. Tommy and I drove from LA to Orlando during the lasts part of July and then I spent 5 hours in the car yesterday driving from the airport (dropping Tommy off) to Gainesville (moving Simon in) and home again, hence the summer of driving… oh yea, remember at the beginning of the summer when I drove from Orlando to LA, yea…driving.

While in NC we did some white water rafting, tubing, fishing, hiking, picking veggies at U-pick orchards, cooking, eating and laughing. It was amazing to spend some quality family time with just the 5 of us. I love watching my kids get older and how their interaction changes with one another. Tommy and Olivia still fight, but I think that is always going to be the case, they are just a little too much alike, and Simon is always going to be the peacemaker err troublemaker.

Tom had a very adventurous trip, he got lost in the mountains on a hike that should have been 3/4 of a mile and ended up 10 miles long. We were waiting patiently (ha) back in the cabin for him to come home, he finally made it back very late at night with some mighty sore feet. He also drove his bike of a semi cliff and tumbled down the mountain, luckily he only sustained some minor cuts and bruises. The rest of us had an accident free trip, unless you count the car battery dying or Tommy tumbling down a small waterfall in a tube and spending a little time under the water churning about.

I’ve enjoyed every minute of the last few weeks with all of my kids at home, I wish I could rewind the clock 10 years and do it all over again…but I can’t and so I’ll put a brave face on and look to the future.
