The last thing I want to do is turn this into a DVD-Audio review site. Or a car site.
But.
I got 5 new DVD-As last night, and I listened to them today, and I was, up to this point, unaware of the wildly varying quality of this format. There really needs to be a definitive source for this type of information - if only the format would have taken off instead of dying an unfortunate death on the vine.
So here’s the rundown:
Willie Nelson: Live in Amsterdam - Not a DVD-Audio. What??? The format on the website clearly says DVD Audio! It even says “DVD Audio” on the cover. Right. It’s a DVD. Not a DVD-Audio. What’s the difference??? Too off topic, but in any event : Not cool. The $8 price tag probably should’ve been my first clue. God, I love Willie too. RATS!
Sheryl Crow : The Globe Sessions - OK, so I made the mistake of buying the DTS version instead of the DVD-Audio. Luckily my car plays DTS discs too, but it doesn’t sound as good. It sounded OK, just not as rich as DVD-Audio typically sounds.
Pat Benatar Live - Hey, at least it’s a DVD-Audio, so that’s pretty cool right there. It actually sounds great, at least the first 2 songs do. She’s awesome.
Natalie Merchant : Tigerlily - An album I love, a mix that is very spotty so far. It keeps like kicking out in places weirdly, and stuff like that. Very disappointing. I’ve listened to three songs and we’re 1 for 3. Ugh. The 1 kicked ass though.
Crowded House: Crowded House - I listened to the first half of the first song. Like my first 3 I got, it rules.
